About the artists and their classes:

James Southworth is a Pastel Artist residing in Salem, OR. He is a signature member of the Northwest Pastel Society and, also, a member of the Pastel Society of America. He has won several Best of Show awards including the Oregon State Fair and the Canson Award in the Pastel Society of America Show, New York. Mr. Southworth will be presenting “A Pastel Primer” workshops that is appropriate for beginners and experienced painters. Mr. Southworth will provide supplies for this class as part of the registration fee.

Stuart May is a native of Glasgow, Scotland. Stuart found the Pacific Northwest so infectious he decided to move to North America. Now a resident of western Washington, Stuart has become an award winning nature photographer. In 2001, Stuart was commissioned by the the National Parks of Canada to update their archives of the Pacific Rim National Park. Stuart’s photography was used on the cover of British Columbiaís Tourism Association’s Visitor Guide. Two of his images are on exhibition in the North America Nature Photography Association’s Top 100 of Photography.
Saturday we will meet and greet at the convention center, then, go over the concept of making creative images of the everyday. We will move to Damon Park for a 2-hour photo walk. Sunday, we will meet at the convention center and review some of your images. Bring your camera!

Marie Martineau has received State, Regional Awards for her wedding portraits and albums. In 1999 she earned an Associated Fellowship Degree in Photography from the Professional Photographers of Washington and received her Fellow degree in 2006. In 2009, Marie was awarded the Photographic Craftsman degree from the Professional Photographers of America which recognizes service to the profession as a teacher, author or mentor.
Maria will be presenting a workshop of value to photographers or artists. As a photographer or artist, you can either work very hard to make a situation work or you can learn to find beautiful lighting and work with it. We live in a beautiful world and Marie will have you to really see the light and how to capture beautiful images for your clients. Outdoor, window light and the use of reflectors and substrative lighting will be covered. Bring your camera, we will be going outside.

Steve Vento started working as a corporate photographer for the world’s largest electronic sign company in Spokane WA in 1976. He graduated from college and took a similar for Hyster Fork Lift Company in Portland OR. In 1984, Steve opened his own studio in Olympia. With the skills that he learned at the corporate level, he was able to bring commercial photography work to the area. He has been working in the field for 26 years and has adjusted methodology to keep up with the rapidly changing photography technology.
“A Bag of Tricks” from a commercial photographer will enhance your ability to create images of items you want to show off. Whether it is for eBay, Craig’s List, juried art shows, or anything you would like to present to it’s best advantage and marketability, this class is for you.

Nina Beheim has about 18 years of writing training documentation and presenting complex training for various agencies. She is involved with the Professional Photographers of Washington. She feels that what photographers need is the basics so that they can operate their very expensive cameras on settings other than automatic. Her class will provide the student to be comfortable and a solid understanding of the basics.

Arthur Egeli teaches beginning oil painting in a step-by-step method. Students begin with basic shapes and quickly move to more complicated shapes and objects as they develop their color vision. Color Bootcamp teaches how to catch the ever-changing light of nature, just as the great impressionist Claude Monet once did. The class begins with a short demonstration and lesson, with a clear objective presented for the students to master. Among the topics that may be presented are light, shade, and half-tone, edges, color value, tonal value, color depth, texture, simultaneous contrast, reflected light, and color modeling. Most supplies are provided; please bring an easel.
Arthur Egeli is an award-winning painter whose work has been featured in American Artist Magazine, Southwest Art, and many others. In 2001 he received the Award of Merit by the Portrait Society of America and the William Schultz Award for Oil Painting by the American Impressionists Society. In 2002 and 2004 the Portrait Society of America awarded him with a Certificate of Recognition. Arthur is an Artist Member of the California Art Club, American Impressionist Society, Portrait Society of America and the Mid-Atlantic Plein Painters.

You will find her candid honesty and insight to be compelling, inspiring and somewhat surprising as she asks probing questions like, “Have you met your Self yet?” or “Are you the wick or the wax?”. Using her intuitive writing and stunning photography to help illustrate the way.
